Drooping gills/ Muscle toning exercises and other tips

The hanging gill, also known as submental fat (double chin) is a common condition that occurs when a layer of fat builds up under the chin. It is often associated with weight gain, but you don't have to be overweight to have it. Genetics or looser skin that results from aging can also cause a drooping chin.

Exercises

There is no scientific evidence that exercises eliminate sagging chin, but there are some exercises that help strengthen and tone the muscles and skin in the chin area. Repeat the exercises 10-15 times a day.

The first exercise

1. Tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling.
2. Push your lower jaw forward to feel a stretch under your chin.
3. Hold your jaw in this position for a few seconds (count to 10).
4. Relax your jaw and return your head to its normal position.

The second exercise

1. Place a small ball under your chin,
2. Push your chin down towards the ball (repeat 25 times/day).

The third exercise

1. With your head tilted back, look at the ceiling.
2. Stretch your lips as if you were kissing the ceiling to stretch the muscles under your chin.
3. Stop and straighten your head to a normal position.

The fourth exercise

1. Looking straight ahead, stick your tongue out as far as you can.
2. Lift your tongue up and towards your nose.
3. Hold for 10 seconds and then release.

The fifth exercise

1. Move your head back and look at the ceiling.
2. Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Hold for 5-10 seconds and release.

The sixth exercise

1. Move your head back and look at the ceiling.
2. Turn your head to the right.
3. Slide your lower jaw forward. Hold for 5 to 10 seconds and release.
4. Repeat the process on the other arm.
