Icardi on the verge of a Serie A return, Inter's biggest rival interested in his transfer
The Argentine is at the center of numerous controversies and will not renew his contract in Turkey: he has been offered to Milan.
“Enjoy Icardi for a few more months, then you'll miss me.” Mauro and Galatasaray have never been so distant, and his outburst after the Champions League defeat to Monaco is just the latest chapter in a divorce that has already been announced.
The Argentine has become a real sensation in Istanbul. Local media continue to criticize his attitude, accusing him of having his mind elsewhere. Perhaps they are not entirely wrong: while he cannot be blamed for the defeat against Monaco (Icardi only came on the field for 11 minutes), the striker seems determined to change the environment, perhaps even return to Serie A.
There are several reasons for the split, the most important being the rupture of his cruciate ligament in November 2024 and the loss of his starting place after being replaced by Victor Osimhen. Mauro's contract expires in June 2026, but a renewal is now unlikely. The terms of his departure remain to be determined. In January at a reduced price or in the summer on a free transfer.
Icardi's profile is attracting interest from a number of clubs. In Italy, the centre-forward has been offered to Milan, who are desperate for a striker given Gimenez's disappointing performances. However, the Rossoneri have expressed doubts about the former Inter captain's fitness. Roma are also evaluating several attacking names, but the path to the Argentine looks difficult at the moment, given that they are targeting Joshua Zirkzee.
The Galatasaray captain currently earns €11m per season, a figure that is clearly out of reach for Serie A clubs. However, he is eager to return to Italy and Icardi could decide to forgo part of his salary. In the meantime, he continues to score, having already scored seven goals in 14 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig. His goals could still be useful for many teams.
