Google's fiber optic cables snapped, causing problems in Eastern Europe

Several damaged Google fiber optic cables caused internet problems in Eastern Europe, Iran and Turkey on Thursday.

The problem, which lasted for two hours, was caused by the physical rupture of some fiber optic cables, a very unusual thing.

Google said its services were unavailable in the aforementioned regions for more than 30 minutes.

The company told internet service providers (ISPs) to connect to other servers to bypass the problem.

Access to Bulgaria, Iran and Turkey had problems for two hours. No information was given about the broken cables. Even in the past, there have been similar cases where optical cables were mistakenly cut.

In 2011, a 75-year-old woman damaged fiber optic cables connecting Georgia to Armenia while searching for scrap.
