Montenegro joins "Mini-Schengen", Djukanovic: It does not replace EU membership

Montenegro is the next Balkan country to join the "Mini-Schengen". At the meeting held today in Tirana, the possibility of Podgorica being the next place where the meeting will be held, after those in Niš and Ohrid, was discussed.

At the leaders' joint conference, Milo Djukanovic, the president of Montenegro, stressed that this initiative is not about the idea of ​​some "Balkan union" that replaces membership in the European Union.

"I do not believe that the participation of everyone in the dialogue constitutes the idea of ​​a 'Balkan union' to replace the EU. If it constituted such an idea, we would say 'NO', we prefer the EU and we are not ready to change the strategic objective. We have recently stated that we are against changing the rules of the game now, because the rules were defined in Thessaloniki, in 2003," said Djukanovic.
