But the important thing is that a joint decision will always be made between the mother and father.

However, one couple ran into problems when the woman decided to name her son after her ex-partner.

He told how the couple had agreed on some names but were left shocked when it came to signing the birth certificate.

Writing on Reddit, the man revealed how he found out his partner named their son after his ex-boyfriend.

After four years of dating, the couple welcomed their first child and had difficulty reaching a final decision on the name, writes the British "Daily Star".

It was only when he looked at the birth certificate that the man noticed the name of his girlfriend's ex-partner.

The man said he had refused to sign the name certificate until his partner had settled on the name they had agreed upon.

"I told her I'm not signing the certificate until we change the name back to what we agreed upon. That caused a bit of a fight with her and now she's refusing to talk to me until I sign the certificate and agree to the name."

Now the man is suspicious of his son and wants a paternity test to make sure he is his father.

He added: "Now I'm plagued with doubts and wondering if I should take a paternity test or is she still in love with him?"
