Problems caused by baking soda in the digestive system

Many people advocate sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, as an effective treatment for digestive problems, including Candida! People think that sodium bicarbonate, which is quite alkaline, will somehow stop the mold because they believe it thrives in an acidic environment.

Almost every link in this chain is wrong, except for the fact that many viruses like acidity. However, Candida can very rarely cause digestive problems. Heavy metal poisoning favors infections, including Candida infection, but this is a harmless secondary effect.

In fact, the maximum that can cause the overpopulation of the fungal mold "Candida" is the irritation of a part of the intestine and/or the formation of mucous membranes, which make it difficult to absorb food.

However, sodium bicarbonate is not effective against Candida or the digestive system. On the contrary, it is abrasive and only disrupts the balance. If you take large doses of sodium bicarbonate, the following problems may occur:

gastric spasm: constriction of the intestinal tract and colon;

homeostatic crisis: the body struggles to restore balance after the large amount of alkaline;

Toxic crisis: in small doses, sodium bicarbonate is safe, but if this dose is exceeded, it becomes irritating to the stomach and intestinal tract. In some cases, it causes diarrhea, vomiting, bloating and/or other discomfort;

worsening of bacterial and fungal infections: because sodium bicarbonate inhibits good bacteria and weakens the immune system;

worsening of digestive problems: by impairing the function of hydrochloric acid production, sodium bicarbonate contributes to intestinal permeability. It also inhibits the absorption of food from the intestine.
