The prosecution is investigating the death of a 17-year-old, but family members are unable to comment due to grief.

Prayers have dried up, and people have fallen to their knees. All today face the wet grave as much as the dead who will rest in it. It is the 17-year-old Seldin Aliu to whom hundreds of fellow citizens of Lubizhda, Prizren, friends and family, are saying goodbye.

He tragically lost his life yesterday at noon at his place of work. The minor had started working at the styrofoam factory in the village of Mushnikovo "Sat Styro" in the municipality of Prizren two weeks ago.

The only son of the Aliu family, with this job, for which he is said to have agreed to receive a salary of 250 euros, had thought of helping the family get out of the poor conditions in which he, his two younger sisters and his parents were living. His family members did not want to talk about his death out of shock. But Jusuf Azemi, president of the Private Sector Workers' Union, accused the Government of negligence in these cases when workers lose their lives at work.

He further stated that according to the information the union has so far, the worker started working ten days ago, possibly two weeks ago, and from experience he expressed his conviction that he did not have an employment contract.

"Perhaps now it is very easy to make a work contract and if we visit tomorrow they will have a contract, but I doubt that there was a contract, because in Kosovo they know how to work", he said, adding that legally it is not allowed to work severe in persons under the age of 18.

While the police have announced that Ali had fallen into a Styrofoam processing machine on the tragic day, Azemi says that they are waiting for the police bodies to come out with their decision, while admitting that the other workers where the case happened tragically reluctant to speak.

Regarding the measures that the union will take after this case, Azemi said that they will support the legal side so that this family has financial support.

The Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren, Petrit Kryeziu, has confirmed that they are investigating the case as a workplace accident.

"The Labor Inspectorate has also been contacted to go to the place of the event and to ascertain whether the adequate laws have been respected regarding the labor relationship and working conditions in general. The victim was sent for an autopsy to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Prishtina", said Kryeziu.

The prosecutor also said that the police, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office, are undertaking the necessary investigative actions to ascertain the factual situation in the specific case, while there are no specific detained persons or suspects.

"Regarding the question regarding the owner of the factory where the 17-year-old lost his life, I can inform you that from the information that the Prosecutor's Office has, he is in the outside world. I am reminding you that we are talking about the initial phase of the investigation and depending on the evidence provided by the Police and the report of the Labor Inspectorate, the Prosecutor's Office will proceed further with the aim of discovering any criminal offense and any eventual perpetrator, depending on the results and evidence provided. For this reason, we are waiting for the report with the findings from the Labor Inspectorate, that the labor law allows employment from 15 years old, but there are some criteria for easier work, which the Labor Inspectorate must ascertain", he said.

Asked what measures will be taken if the Inspectorate finds the mentioned violations, Kryeziu said that these measures are foreseen by the Criminal Code of Kosovo. "In those cases when the work does not pose a risk to their health or development, but in this part I cannot be released at this stage. If this happens, then the prosecutor of the case assesses which criminal offense from Chapter XXIX of criminal offenses against the general safety of people and property is in question. Right now it is too early to establish something like this," he said.

The managers of the Sat Styro company have not commented and, moreover, have not even allowed the team to film in front of the factory where Aliu lost his life.
