SBASHK gives ultimatum to authorities: Release teacher quickly or escalation
The United Education Union (SBASHK) has given an ultimatum to the authorities to release teacher Abaz Kadriu, detained for 48 hours on suspicion of physical assault, otherwise it threatened to escalate the teachers' strike at the national level.
SBASHK representative, Ymer Ymeri, who joined the two-hour strike of the “Pavarësia” school collective on Tuesday, said that teacher Kadriu was attacked at work.
He said that the alleged attack on the teacher at the "Pavarësia" school in Pristina is not the first of its kind.
"We immediately supported it and today we are among the teachers here to support their action. This is not an event that is happening for the first time. There are cases when teachers have been physically attacked, even by parents," said Ymeri.
"The justice authorities should take measures as soon as possible to uncover the truth and release the teacher," he said. "If the events are not clarified quickly and the teachers are not released, this form of union action could escalate."
"The justice authorities should take action against parents who bring such children to school, who enter the classroom and attack the teacher," Ymeri continued.
The staff of the "Pavarësia" lower secondary school held a two-hour strike on Tuesday morning in support of teacher Abaz Kadriu.
Kadriu, arrested on Monday around 12:00, has been detained for 48 hours by order of the state prosecutor as a suspect in the criminal offense of "physical assault."Indeksonline/
