Selimi: On Friday we will vote for the army and celebrate

We are only two days away from the evolution of the KSF into the Kosovo Security Forces.

The 14th of this month is expected to be a special date in terms of state-building in our country. On Friday, citizens are expecting the vote on three draft laws related to the new mandate of the KSF: the Law on the KSF, the Law on Service in the KSF, and the Law on the Ministry of Defense.

Kosovo Assembly Member from the Vetëvendosje Movement, Rexhep Selimi, says that these three laws have been very necessary and important for Kosovo.

"There are three laws that have passed all procedures, after the first reading in the Assembly and the Standing Committees and Functional Committees. There are three laws that have been amended as necessary, as expected, now all that is expected is to be voted with the same necessary votes but even more in the second reading. I think that in the second reading there will be a procedure, certainly both of voting but also of celebration, because the result is already known," he said in a statement for Indeksonline.

 According to him, the support of the United States of America has been very important for Kosovo at this stage.

"The support of the United States of America is very important and decisive. Something that should not surprise us, the support of the US for increasing Kosovo's military capacities for advancing the role of the KSF in the tasks and mission of the law is not surprising. Not only the US, but also other states from our strategic partners have provided the necessary support and above all, which is even more important, they will provide support for the development of this force," he said during the conversation.

According to him, it would be good for the KSF to become the KAF the day after tomorrow for several reasons.

 "It would be good for this to happen the day after tomorrow, for reasons that are already known, because to do something like this, constitutional changes are needed, the circumstances do not exist in the Kosovo Assembly, now I think that not everything has been achieved with legal changes, but what is possible for the moment has been done," he continued.

Selimi also spoke about the reactions of Serbian officials regarding the process of transforming the KSF into an army.

 "Serbia's reaction is understandable, Serbia does not only have a problem with the Kosovo Army, but above all, for Serbia, the problem is Kosovo itself, its independence, its sovereignty, its institutions, and in this case, the Army," he added.

According to him, Serbia wants not to be a state and even more so to have its own state elements.

"Serbia wants Kosovo not to be a state and, respectively, not to have state elements. We should not be surprised by its reaction, as Serbia still maintains Kosovo as part of its Constitution."

"What is surprising is that the deputies of the Serbian List in the Kosovo Assembly are still representatives of Serbia and not of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo of the specific Serbian community," says Selimi.

 The LVV MP says he would like the Serb MPs in the Kosovo Assembly to represent the interests of the Serbs of Kosovo, and not to represent the interests of the Serbian state. /Indeksonline/
