Still no trial date for the fake veterans case

It has now been announced that the case of those accused of manipulating the inflated lists of Kosovo Liberation Army veterans will be tried by judge Nushe Kukaj-Mekaj, who is the wife of the son of Sali Mekaj's uncle, former president of the Court of Appeal and the District Court in Peja.

As for the date when the trial will begin, Indeksonline contacted the spokesperson for the Basic Court of Pristina, Mirlinda Gashi, to find out if it has been decided, but she said it is still too early to talk about this.

"Now only the judge who will try the veterans' case has been decided. The date for the trial to begin has not yet been set, for this it is still early since the indictment came this Friday, the public will be informed of any decision in due time," Gashi told Indeksonline.

We remind you that on Friday, the Kosovo Prosecution Office, or rather the Special Prosecution Office, sent the indictment against 12 people to the Court for manipulating the lists of veterans.

According to the indictment, names such as Agim Çeku, Nuredin Lushtaku, Sadik Halitjaha, Shkumbi Demaliaj, Qelë Gashi, Shukri Buja, Ahmet Daku, Rrustem Berisha, Faik Fazliu, Smajl Elezaj, Fadil Shurdhja and Xhavit Jashari are included.

Finally, former special prosecutor Elez Blakaj has reacted regarding the indictment for which he himself had compiled it. The latter has stated that the indictment has undergone some changes and the same has been completed. According to him, there are about two thousand more people who have been selected as beneficiaries of the status of combat veteran in violation of the criteria of the law on veterans and that Blakaj has said that he does not take any responsibility for these.

Meanwhile, today the State Prosecutor's Office has issued an important press release, stating that over 80 applications have been reviewed during the year and a half that the investigations for veterans have lasted.
