The two-time Golden Boot winner who lost his career due to cocaine

Older generations undoubtedly remember the Brazilian player, Mario Jardel.

Jardel even won the "Golden Boot" twice, in 1999 and 2002, where he also defeated Real Madrid in the Super Cup.

But his addiction to cocaine was one of the reasons for his subsequent failure.

His former coach at Sporting, Laszlo Boloni, has spoken about Jardel and his problems with cocaine, describing him as the most problematic player he had managed.

"The most difficult player to train and the one I had the most problems with was Jardel. His parents were alcoholics, that was the problem. I would write the formation on the board, in front of the players, I would put him in the starting lineup and the doctor would tell me that it was not possible because Jardel had… (he runs his fingers over his nose). They would test him to see if the doctor could authorize him to play and he tested positive," Boloni described.

Jardel spent his most glorious time at Porto, Galatasaray and Sporting Lisbon, as well as in the Premier League at Bolton Wanderers.IndeksOnline/
