Tully: The SPO witness was not in the KLA, he had total ignorance about how the KLA functioned

Eric Tully, Rexhep Selim's lawyer, said in his speech that the only witness called by the SPO who claimed to have knowledge of specific orders from Selim was described as a liar even by the family itself.

Attorney Tully said that this witness was not even in the KLA and that he had total ignorance about how the KLA functioned.

“You cannot consider this document as an order and it does not even come close to an order, because this document does not show that Mr. Selimi had any control or operational authority. The only witness called by the SPO who claimed to have knowledge of specific orders from Mr. Selimi, in his capacity as Mr. Selimi, in his capacity as Minister of Public Order, was witness W04748, who has been described by his own family members as a liar. A person who was not even in the KLA, let alone in the Ministry of Interior; he had total ignorance of how the KLA functioned at that time. A person who has completely baselessly claimed that there was a man for secret agreements between KFOR and the police and, despite his speculations regarding orders issued by Mr. Selimi, he admits during cross-examination that he had no personal knowledge of any order received from the police in the summer of '99 and, more specifically, that "He was unaware that the area commanders had received orders from the Minister of Public Order," he said.

According to Tully, the only document that the SPO considers an order is a communiqué issued in Selim's name on June 14, 1999.

"The SPO has not called a single witness to acknowledge this document. Nor do we have any precedent. Even the wording is so vague and nothing in the content indicates that the power of the KLA police chief was transferred to the Minister of Public Order," Tully said.
