Story from Jam Press (Runaway Train) Pictured: Video grab of the train travelling without a driver. VIDEO: Runaway train travels 45 miles without driver A runaway train has travelled nearly 45 miles along the tracks without any drivers. The 53-wagon locomotive was carrying diesel goods and stone chips at the time. The train was due to leave Kathua in the Indian region of Jammu and Kashmir bound for Hoshiarpur in Punjab State, about 84 miles away. After the diesel locomotive stopped in Kathua for a crew change, it reportedly rolled down a slope on the Jammu-Jalandhar line and gathered speed. The driver and assistant had both disembarked when the train set off along the tracks on the morning of 25 February. The locomotive then travelled over 43.5 miles (70 km) before being stopped by Indian Railways staff. It reportedly hit speeds of nearly 62mph (100kph) and passed through five train stations. Footage shows the train whizzing past several stations at high speed. An Indian Railways spokesperson said: ???The train was stopped after a railway official placed wood blocks on the tracks to stop it.??? The locomotive was stopped on a steep incline near the Unchi Bassi railway station in Punjab. No one was injured by the runaway train and no property was reported as damaged. The authorities said they are investigating what happened after the train stopped at Kathua to ensure that a similar incident does not take place in the future.
